Timber moves as it breathes. Furniture made from wood that is still wet will crack, warp and open at the joints once it reaches a dry, air-conditioned room.
We season our boards slowly in solar kilns until their moisture content suits Indian homes. It takes longer than a fuel-fired kiln, but it stresses the wood less.
The result is joints that stay tight and tops that stay flat through monsoon and dry winter alike.
